True Color: It’s More Than Just a Trend (and Here’s Why We Love It!)
Remember our last blog post where we talked about why we champion true color editing over trendy styles like “light and airy” or “dark and moody”? If you missed it, definitely give it a read! It got me thinking, though. You might peek at our portfolio and notice some images with presets and filters. And you’d be right! But there’s a method to our madness, and it’s not what you might expect. Let’s dive into our editing process and clear things up:
True Color with a Zing!
Our editing workflow is pretty straightforward, so let’s break it down:
- We capture all the beautiful moments of your wedding day.
- We carefully select the best images from the day.
- We edit the entire gallery to reflect true color.
- We then choose a few select images to explore different stylistic tones.
- We also create some stunning black-and-white versions.
- We present the preset/black-and-white versions alongside their true color counterparts.
- We reveal your full gallery to you.
- We happily accommodate requests for additional images with applied presets or black-and-white treatments.
Sounds simple, right? It is! But the why behind our approach is where things get interesting.
The Power of a True Color Base

True color provides incredible flexibility. Think of it this way: true color is the foundation. From there, we can explore a world of creative possibilities.
I genuinely enjoy the editing process. Many photographers don’t, but I find it fascinating to see how different styles can transform a single image. Starting with a true color edit allows us to easily experiment with both lighter and darker presets. However, if we begin with a pre-applied light or dark preset, our creative options become significantly limited. We’d have to make extensive additional edits, which most photographers simply don’t do.
A Word on Sun Flare (and Real Sun!)

We sometimes get asked about removing or adding sun flare to images. The truth? Some of that sun flare is the real deal! While we strive for variety in our shots, I love using the sun during golden hour.
Black-and-White: Timeless Elegance

I remember years ago, some grandmas questioned the point of black-and-white photography in the age of color. As someone who started with silver grain and chemical processing, I understand the power of black-and-white. It isolates a moment, stripping away the distractions of color and highlighting the emotion. While we offer color, we understand the timeless appeal of black-and-white. It’s like the resurgence of vinyl for some – a connection to something deeper.
The Sunflower Story: Why True Color Matters
Our commitment to true color was solidified a few years ago when a couple came to our studio. They’d attended a family wedding where the sunflowers – those vibrant bursts of yellow – had been rendered brown by the photographer’s presets. The photographer refused to re-edit the photos to restore the true yellow hues.
That’s why this couple chose Abanathy Photography for their own wedding. They knew we embraced true color, ensuring their precious memories wouldn’t be distorted by trendy presets. This highlights the risk of committing to a specific preset: you become trapped by its limitations. At Abanathy Photography, we understand that not everyone wants their cherished wedding portraits subjected to exaggerated colors. That’s why we offer choices, giving you the best of both worlds.
